Inspirations
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a huge dog lover. When I finally got my own, they became my favorite, sometimes-willing subjects and are my daily inspiration. Whether snoozing on the couch, snuggling with their humans, romping outside and going on adventures, being hams, or desperately wanting dinner, their expressions, behavior, and personality are amazing to capture.
Brewer:
Brewer was my husband's and my first dog. He came to us through Great Dog Rescue New England, via Tennessee, a less-than-ideal family situation, and two foster families. As our first dog, we made (and continue to make) so many mistakes and had so much to learn about raising a hound dog. He also opened our eyes to the unconditional love of a dog.
Territorial, petulant, and stubborn – he’s also intelligent, loyal, emotional, and a big lover of dinner and fetch. At six years-old, we can already see some grays in his muzzle and notice a greater maturity and propensity for naps.
Ruby:
I look at Ruby and often say, “Can you believe she’s ours?!” This garners a chuckle from my husband and a response of, “She’s yours.” Ruby was our second fur baby – at two and a half years, she’s still got tons of puppy left in her and is quite the ridiculous creature. We got her from New England Basset Hound Rescue, and she came with purebred lineage papers, with about seven generations of other purebred bassets behind her.
Maniacal energy for days, no sense of personal space, and that special Basset smell – she’s also got the biggest wiggly butt, ears for days, and the cutest freckled spots. Ruby is still currently perfecting the ‘sit’ command, and while she enthusiastically runs after and retrieves the ball in fetch, she’s still got to work out the bringing it back part.
